EMBERS AND ENTRAPMENT

The dancing embers cast long, sinuous shadows across the humid air. A chill pervaded the atmosphere, heightening the feeling of crushing restriction. The clay-laden earth beneath my feet felt soft, as if consuming all sound and movement. My vision was hazy by the soot that swirled around me, {obscuringmy surroundings. I strained to see through the
